I have a HP dv6395 laptop (should be applicable to the whole HP dv6000 series) and it comes with a remote. Once in a while it just stops working. The ultimate problem solving technique of resatrting windows doesn’t solve this problem. Usually whenever there’s a problem with any IR remote, I use the digital camera technique to ensure that the IR light actually comes from the remote. In this case the RC was actually woking and I couldn’t find anything else wrong. The related services were working, but none of the functions were actually executed by the OS. Powering off and removing the power supply too didn’t work.
Finally I had this logical intuition, where I thought that since the remote can power on the laptop even if its powered off, unless I remove the battery the IR sesning circuit will not be reset. That worked, removing the battery and then inserting it back restored the IR functionality.
I have the HP dv 6000 series laptop. IR remaote having the same problem but the mentioned technique not working with me… Can you help me out … I think the battery is not Okay … How/where can I purchase new battery???

Did you contact HP service? If the laptop is still under warranty, you better approach the service centre.
Success at last! I have spent ages with HP (who, as ever, haven’t a clue and will have you doing factory restores in an attempt to get things to work). I have also spent ages on the internet. When I got your link it was a shot in the dark.
Two things:
ONE: I love the digital camera and remote technique – that works really well!
TWO: the removal of the battery of the laptop sorted the problem of the remote control out. As I use the laptop for presentations, it was really important for me to get this to work once more.
Why not sell (literally) your idea to HP? None of their clowns knows of this – basically mechanical – technique”
Thanks so much

Sunish, thanks you so much!!!!!! this is one of those simple solutions that you don´t even think about, but, if you analizes it, when something is not working properly, you just turn off and on again the computer, it is the same but in a lower level.
Again, tanks a lot!!
